FCAB Chile more action on the Atacama Desert
Author: masterphots

1.   GE C23-EMP 2604W passes a mine dump truck en transit around Cochrane.  4/6/22.  The truck bed is transported separately.  With escorts these moves are kind of moving traffic jams; when traffic builds up they pull off to let it pass,  then return to occupying the entire highway.
The train had 60 cars, including boxcars with mineral concentrate from Bolivia,  copper anodes, and suplhuric acid tank cars.

2.   Same train passes remains of the station and water tank at Cerritos Bayos.

3.   Same train nearing Sierra Gorda.

4.  GT42AC 3213W with containers of copper concentrate from BHP Spence mine west of Cumbre.  4/3/22

5.  GT42AC 3207E with empty sulphuric acid tanks east of Cumbre.  4/9/22    These containers are replacing ageing and leaky tank cars.

6.  GT42AC 3201W at Gaviota on 4/2/22.  Train includes copper anodes and loaded suphuric acid tank cars.

Very nice location. The desert provides fantastic landscapes for photography.
The trucks is huge. In Brazil we akways moves them disassembled.

Thanks for posting.
Nice to see railroading through desolate areas.
Is that standard gauge?

Neat photos. Wow, even for a guy like me, with a background in the mining biz, that is one big truck!

'Always enjoy your Atacama photography.  'Nice "sandbox" to play in.

The size of that monster dumper is interesting to compare with the locomotives beside it.
