EFE Chile GE Shovel Nose action
Author: masterphots

EFE, the Chilean State Railway,  maintains a couple of GE-Alco shovel nose diesels for use on work trains and the occasional special passenger operation.  Such was the case September 10,2022 when 16012/16005 headed the monthly vintage train from Santiago to Limache and return.  Here are a few views where the sun angle was favorable.  The great scenery through the gorge north of Til Til and then over Tabo Pass was against the sun,  so no photos.

1.  Crossing the bridge at Polpaico
2.  Arriving for the station stop at Til Til
3.  On the fill at E. Meiggs

4.  The old units lookin' good on the E. Meiggs fill
5-6.   Leaving Llay Llay.  The track off to the right is the line to Los Andes where the wide gauge meets the meter gauge Fepasa line to the Andina copper mine at Saladillo.  The meter gauge is the only surviving segment of the Transandine railway that went over the Andes to Mendoza. Argentina.

Sorry, no interior photos.  I've never ridden either vintage train (the other goes to San Antonio more frequently).  Something we need to do.  The last car is first class,  with sofas,  breakfast served, etc.  The vintage trains are all day affairs.  About three hours each way and then 3-4 hours at Limache (typical small town with craft fairs, etc) and San Antonio (big casino as well as great seafood restaurants).
