Most of the press to date has been on the high-speed passenger trains between Kunming in China and the Lao capitol (Vientiane) but there seems to be a significant amount of freight traffic as well. The railway construction through Laos remains controversial due to the many landowners who had their property confiscated without just compensation and the large debt Laos has incurred for a rail line many observers believe mainly benefits China. |
