A fast visit to São Paulo branch - part 1
Author: pedrop

Hi, yesterday 07/10 I was in a area served by MRS São Paulo branch. The tracks were built in the end of 1880's by ancient São Paulo & Rio and Central of Brazil railroads. The tracks met in Cachoeira Paulista station seen on picture 1. That area had a great coffee and milk production and was well developed after the railroads arrival. Nowadays, the tracks belongs to MRS rr, with a good amount of bauxite, steel, containers, sand and other cargo trains.

1) The huge Cachoeira Paulista station waits restoration. I do not know if it will be rebuilt one day;
3- 4) The small Lorena station also need some repairs and painting.

Is there passenger service on this line?

Unfortunately the last passenger train on those tracks ended in 1998, the famous Trem de Prata ( Silver Train). There are projects to new passenger services in many lines here at the moment and we hope we can have a passenger train linking Rio and São Paulo again (516 km - 320 miles).

I very interesting set of photos.  I always enjoy your postings.  I would like to see more of South American, I have only been in Ecuador and Peru.
