Hi, MRS rr start with the special Christmas train to the employees and family that wants to run a short strech of rails at night. The train started this week and will run all MRS network until the end of the year.

1 - 3) The train starting the special trips in the São Paulo branch.

Are those the Budd cars I photographed in 1987 in and around Rio, they were on the overnight train from Sao Paulo?

Yes, these budd are part of the trains that linked Belo Horizonte to Rio and Rio to São Paulo. If you post your pictures here in TO we can identify the cars. Many of them were scrapped years ago.

That's a great photo. The train name was Santa Cruz and used to be pulled by broad gauge U20C. The one that departured Belo Horizonte to Rio and vice-versa was called Vera Cruz and used to be pulled by Alco RSD12. Santa Cruz and Vera cruz were the names of the land later called Brazil in the 1500's.
