Two SD40-2 from Brazil to Gabon.
Author: pedrop

Hi, right now (12/21/22) there are two SD40-2 overhauled by EMD of Brazil in Sete Lagoas, MG on way to Rio de Janeiro port where they will be shipped to Gabon in Africa. The company is Setrag – Société d’Exploitation du Transgabonais.

These units are ex-US units that Progress Rail of Brazil imported circa 2003 to rent here. About twenty units were sent to EMD plant near here to be overhauled or rebuilt to specific customers, like happened with the one rebuilt to battery powered and sent back to US a month ago.
I didn't know about these units on the road, nor I could take my own pictures of them while running on the roads near my town. I am trying to discover if there will be more of these units to Gabon. Maybe I can have a better luck next time.

Pictures from a Jurandir L. Castro on 12/20/22.

1 - 3) The units on the BR-040 road in Posto Vila gas station in Esmeraldas , MG.

Thanks for posting Pedro!

One question: Did the Joule locomotive for PHL ship out? I haven't seen any pics of it show up yet.

Hi, the loco was sent to Rio de Janeiro port a month ago. Here it is a picture of it at EMD plant. She is the unit in the center.

The sky in this last picture looks like a painting.

But it is real. It's common in this area in the sundown.

I read in the news today that third truck with an SD40-2 to Gabon stuck under a viaduct on BR-040 in Congonhas, MG about 120 km from my town.

10  - 11) The truck stuck below the viaduct on BR-040.
