International Railroad Discussion > Train C417 here in town (Brazil)

Hi, yesterday 12/24/22 I had a nice surprise to find the train of empty gondolas C417 running here in town with a trio of BB40-3's. Even better, we had another BB40-3  parked with a ballast train on track 4.

1 - 2) BB40-3 8120 parked with a ballast train on track 4;
3) U20C 2690 on track 4 too.

4) Four BB40-3's in the yard. Nice gift for a Christmas eve;
5) Unit 8102 had a fire in the prime mover section and is returning to Divinopolis shops for repair;

Pedro, do you have any history on 8102? It appears to be a former SD40T-2 tunnel motor. Either SP or Rio Grande

Unfortunately I have no data about these 81xx series. They belongs to Progress Rail and the railroad historians here could not get the data with them. An expert in SP or DRGW can identify them by the details in the carbody. The 81xx series have SD40-2 and SD40T-2. 8102 is a former tunnel motor. There are more pictures of it in railpicturesarchives.net

Loopking at the ex tunnel motor it seems to have had the SP light package on the rear end at one point.

Soon you will have 8 axles units in US too. UP ordered SD70BBJ "joule" here in Brazil. They are battery powered units.

Nice Christmas series with lots of interesting trains and power. Looks nice and green in area.
