The fill is gone (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, yesterday 12/29 there was an accident with a rail train of Rumo rr in São Carlos, SP (ZSK). A fill melted during a heavy storm and a rail train was stuck on the rails above it. The crew was lucky to pass with the locomotive a few seconds before the fill melt.
Rumo MoW crew is working 24 hous a day to solve the problem. That is the mainline for all grain trains coming to the fields in the west. They intend to solve the problem in three days.
Pictures from Rumo and friends there.

1 - 2) The flat cars on the rails over the big hole;

3) The culvert that produced the accident.

7 - 9) Drone views. The crew was really lucky to pass before this big hole appears. Note the locomotive stopped near the hole.

10 - 12) On the ground views taken after the employeees cut the rails. I imagine they will put a bridge in the location the allow more volume of water to pass without the risk of a new  accident like this.

That's all for while. If I receive news about the works there I will add here.

Was the problem the volume of water or the deteriorated culvert? In one of the drone photos it looks like a road bridge just upriver was also damaged.

The news say it was the volume of water, but I believe the company that was enlarging the river (at right) damaged the culvert, what produced a failure in the fill. The cityhall says that culvert produces floods in the city and now the problem will be solved.

Yikes. Good that they put caution tape across the track before the gap.

The traffic was open today at 3:30AM. Rumo repaired the old culvert and plans to build a bridge at side this year.

13) Rumo had another issue with that culvert and decided to stop mainline for 10 to 15 days to built a bridge. This drone video show us the begining of the works there.
