The last pics of 2022 (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, today 12/31/22 I visited EVP yard to take the last railroad pictures of 2022. I found two MoW trains and an U20C parked there. I had no time to wait for a train.

1 - 3) Nice to find U20C 3825 and BB40-3 8120 wearing the old fca orange livery.

13) BB40-3 8143 is an ex BN SD40-2. Here we see with a scavator snd a couple of gondolas to remove some mudslides thst fell on tbe tracks;
14 - 15) You can perceive she was an ex BN SD40-2.

I suspect this has been answered before, but what is the reason for the BB's HUGE front porch, but almost "normal" back porch?  The BB trucks take more room than a C truck, but has the fuel tank been "shortened" to make room for the rear BB trucks?  LOVE your pictures of the Brazilian RRs and the action there on!

Happy New Year Pedro!  Thank you for almost single-handedly keeping the International Forum going in 2022.  I rarely comment on your postings but I read most of them and enjoy the photos.  Brazilian railroading is of great interest to many of us railfans here in North America.  I suspect it is because of the similarities with respect to the equipment used.

The BB40-2's and BB40T-2's had they're frames lengthened to accommodate the BB trucks and span bolster. Frame extensions were added at both ends of the locomotive. The rear porch is not nearly as pronounced due to the radiator section being being moved further to the rear. This also required a filler section for the long hood which had to be lengthened as a result. The fuel tanks were indeed shortened on these units during the conversion as well.

Happy New Year David!
I did this illustration with a photo of mine to explain how the BB's were done.

Thanks for the VERY informative information!  Looking back at the pictures on this post I can see what is Obvious, but not!  I have been a fan of your postings since I was introduced to TO by the late Bob Kreiger!  Love all the pictures, even those that I would classify as DISASTER PHOTOS!
