Progress Rail closes the plant in Brazil
Author: pedrop

A sad news: Progress Rail of Brazil closed the Hortolandia,SP plant. Hortolandia plant was used to repair and overhaul locomotives. Now the job on old locomotives will be done in EMD plant. That's why the Joules rebuilt from old SD40s are coming from EMD plant, with other export units that were sent to Africa last month. EMD plant used to be a plant for new units only, like the SD70's and the Vale mining Joule that was not rebuilt from old SD40s.

So Progress/EMD has no locomotive factory remaining in Brazil?

Progress Rail has a plant in Hortolândia SP to work with old units and EMD has a plant in Sete Lagoas MG to build new units. Now, EMD / Progress will use the same plant in Sete Lagoas for new and old units.

The units rebuilt to Chile were made in Hortolândia plant, the one that closed.
