EFE Chile passenger train action
Author: masterphots

EFE,  the Chilean state railway, no longer has any regular locomotive hauled passenger trains.  However,  they do run "trenes de recuerdo"  (memory trains) most Saturdays from Santiago to either Limache or the port of San Antonio.  These are two separate lines.  I give chase now and then and here are some recent results.   They are usually hauled by one or both of EFE's operable GE-Alco shovel nose units.  When these are unavailable,  they rent a unit from one of the two freight operators,  Transap or Fepasa.  Here are a few recent images.

1.  San Antonio train behind the two shovel noses at Puangue.  11/28/22.  This are is one of the principal avocado areas in Chile.  The photo is taken from one of the orchards.
2.  Limache train at Polpaico on 1/14/23.  The Transap unit is an SD39M-3 built by MPI  Mexico from remains of Milwaukee SD40 175.
3.  Same train arriving at the station stop at Til Til.

4.   Same Limache train westbound passing the remains of the long-abandoned electric substation at Rungue.  From the condoms on the floor in there,  this must be a prime hook-up spot for the locals.
5.   Here's the same train eastbound at E. Meiggs.   This and following image can only be taken in the long days of summer.  This one was taken at 7:30 pm and ten more minutes it would have been  in shadow.
6.   In the canyon east of Rungue. Last shot as the sun was going, going......   btw,  these photo locations are all about an hour drive from our home in Santiago. This photo is posted in this thread below;  for some reason it didn't show up here.

#6 didn't show up on my rig.  Your 2nd posting did.

'Nice bunch of photos.  The "shovel nose" units are interesting... the trucks look similar to an ALCO PA.  Maybe a "weekend project" for Doyle.  LOL.
