VLI railroad transfered the ballast base from EHF yard in Belo Horizonte city to EVP yard here in town. I think the main reason is that BH is a big city and has more laws to protect the enviroment than small industrial cities like Vespasiano. People won't care about the dust of the operation to load a ballast train here since the city has some factories like the big cement plant we see in this series. Another reason is that a new quarry for ballast is not far from here.

There not using washed rock for ballast based on the dust, Here in the states Washed rock is used to cut down on dust and fines fowling the drainage capability of the ballast.

I assume that the ballast was transported to the trans-loading site by truck?

If so, judging from the size of the piles, the trucks must have been fairly large rigs.  Any photos?

The ballast comes from the quarries around here in "bi-train" trucks like this one shown in the video in this link

The pile looks high in the yard because the front loader adjust them in a big pile to be easy to load the trains.
