Railfaning with two famous US railfans (Brazil) - part 3
Author: pedrop

   In this third part, I will show our first day railfaning here, on August 14. The reason I didn't start the series with this part of the trip is because I had some issues to recover the files from the memory card. I do not know if it happens with others guys here, but nowadays the memory cards are not so dependable like years ago. I suspect that the companies that produces programs to recover the data from the cards spreads put some kind of virus that attack the cards just to encrease their sales. I had four cards with this kind of issues in the last four months and the cards are from different brands. Two were bought in US market.
Well, let's see the pictures.

1)  We started the trip here in Vespasiano (EVP) in the morning since the guys arrived in the CNF airport late in the previous night. There were some GE U20C and GM BB40 in EVP yard. Nothing bad;

2) A visit to Wilson Lobato yard  (EWL) to see the small locomotive shops. We found this C476 train of logs departing to Vale system;

3) We saw the empty grain J481 being formed to depart to Pirapora branch. It was a consist of forty five cars distribute with two units and twenty three hoppers cars,  plus two units and twenty two cars. The reason gor DPU with small trains is the fact of the line to be very tortuous from EPM ahead. So, only the U20C or small units can run there.

4) We started to follow the empty grain in EWL yard and here it is at Matosinhos (EMS) waiting licence to proceed to Prudente de Morais (EPM);

5 - 6)  We had time to move to EPM where we could see it descending the 2% grade section after the station to reach the fields of the EMBRAPA  Agricultural School

10 -11) When we were near Araçaí town I decided to use the drone to get some shots of the train in the flatlands known as "Sertão" here. That's an area that I like so much for train watching. It has great landscapes;

12) The train arriving in Araçaí, one of those lovely town in the "Sertão"

13) Another view of train J481 running through Araçáí;

14) We arrived in Cordisburgo town about 5 PM, so we decided to end our train chase there. The station is simple as many in that land. The town is famous for its big "Maquiné" cave where many bones from ancient eras were found in the 1840s. It also is the home of the famous writer "Guimarães Rosa" who wrote tales of the big Sertão that starts in that area and goes far to interlands of Brazil;

15) An old trolley is found near the station, a relics from the steam days.

16) The train arrives in EOR (Km 743) as the Sun lights were going down behind the small hills;

17) It was a nice trip. The weather was hot and dry and we  followed the grain train for ninety kilometers, plus twenty seven kilometers from EVP to EWL yard. It's time to come back to our start point in EVP to prepare for another day of train chasing;

18) The video. Here you can some of the action we the railfans had that day.

That's all for today.
