Suravali Goa - Mainline Konkan Railway Action March 28 2025
Author: erielackawanna

I hired a car on the afternoon of March 28 to take me to the Suravali train station. My driver, who lived fairly close to there had no idea that there even was a Survali stop (it's basically just a station sign and only a couple trains stop there a day). It was a great afternoon though and I was happy with the train action and the results. Literally as he parked the car I could hear the thrum of some EMDs under load coming at me. Wound up having the first three trains in about 15 minutes. After that, we did have some down times, but overall the traffic was good.

Image one South Western Railway coal loads from Mormugao Port in Vasco-da-Gama behind a pair of EMD design WDG4s.

Image two, minutes later, a South Western Railway coal empties to Mormagao Port, also with WDG4s.

Image three, and then just a few minutes after that, Central Railway 12052 Jan Shatabdi Express to Mumbai behind a WAP7.

Image four was the only Alco I saw on the trip, a WDG3a running light. This is the Konkan Railway's yard power/MOW power from Verma Yard (the leading zero on the road number tells you it is yard power).

Image five was South Western Railway 12779 Goa Express from Vasco-da-Gama being led by a WDP4D

Image six was Central Railway 22120 Tejas Express to Mumbai being pulled by a WAP7.

Image seven is an amazingly lucky catch. This is a South Western Railway empties train to Vasco-da-Gama, but what is leading is not an Indian-manufcatured locomotive. This is one of the original EMD GT46MACs that the WDG4s are based on... but even better, it's the very first one, 12001, still in its EMD demonstrator paint.

Image eight is the Southern Railway 12618 Mangal Lakshadweep Express with a WAP7 in charge. This train snuck up on me while the empty coal trains were blocking my view. I didn't have time to get in a position away from the shadows.

Image nine is an empty pet coke train to Mangaloge being led by a WAG9. Note the crossing guard watching.

Nice series of photos from India. Interesting trains that seem well used.

Very nice trains. I imagine the rail gauge there is 1,676mm.

Impressive variety of paint schemes on their locomotives. I am enjoying this coverage.
