I remember my first time in Mariana in 1996. I was there with friends to inspect the tracks in the direction of Ponte Nova to check if it was possible to remove the steam engines 1170 and 1424 that were abandonned by RFFSA after the closure of those line circa 1990. The yard was full of grass and garbage. The station and sheds were in bad condition. We walked about ten Km on the tracks and we discovered that there were big damages near Furquim station, where some fills were washed out. So, the locomotives were removed by trucks and nowadays they pull tourism trains in Passa Quatro, MG.
. The speeder is a Wickham model 40, type II. They were common on narrow and broad gauge and some still working nowadays. Locomotive 1214 was renumbered to 2307 and was sent to RVPSC in the South. I do not know what happened with it. Unit 1231 was renumbered 2401 and still working in Bahia state in VLI fleet, but still using fca painting scheme. Here are three pics of it in Alagoinhas, BA, from friend Alisson. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/19/25 17:52 by pedrop.
