International Railroad Discussion > Train Time at Hue, VietnamDate: 06/23/25 09:46 Train Time at Hue, Vietnam Author: NMlurker The day after we arrived in Hue we were back at the station to travel to Da Nang, again on train SE1, the same train on which we had arrived from Hanoi the prior day. The train arrived on time and I had just enough time for a shot of the lead locomotive. Someone asked about patronage on these trains - our "first-class" chair car (coach) was full as was the the adjacent car and that was typical.
1. VNR D19E-class #922 in the red-white-blue scheme and older, more angular body style on the point of train SE1 at Hue on February 18, 2025. Note the 'signalman' in uniform who is holding two flags, a red one (stop) and a yellow one (proceed). At the manned sidings, you would see such a person holding out the yellow flag as we passed. Also of note is that most grade crossings (level crossings) were manned (or womanned) and the gates were rolled across manually prior to a train's arrival. The Vietnam Railways were providing a lot of employment. 2. A detail shot of the cab. Again, note the two flags visible at the lower, right of the image. I was usually the only one taking these photos and with maybe one exception was never told I couldn't be where I was but I was also generally behaving. ![]() ![]() Date: 06/24/25 17:51 Re: Train Time at Hue, Vietnam Author: pedrop I like these units.
