EFE Chile Shovel noses in the fog
Author: masterphots

Today I planned to chase the weekly excursion,  this time from Santiago to Los Andes,  an infrequent destination.  Dawn arrived with heavy fog at home but I decided to see if better a bit north.   I went to my first spot, the bridge at Polpaico and waited,  hoping the fog would burn off.  No dice but I did take a cellphone shot which I kinda liked, given the local fans shooting away with their phones.   Then back home where I can watch Indycar qualifying at Portland.

Interesting bridge. It was always dry? I imagine a river flowing below it in the past.

Yes, a river bed.  In 30 years here I've only seen water in it (and over the road) once,  last winter.  The road is behind the bridge,  covered with water but driveable.   Photo below

Nice photos with great vintage passenger cars.  I was at the Portland Indycar Race on Sunday, August 10, 2025.  Saw Will Power win and Alex Palou clinch the championship.  It was 96 degrees at the track that day, hottest Indycar race in Portland International Raceway history.  I flew up from Southern California with my brother and his wife.  We did see some rail oriented things.  Visited the ORHC Museum the day before the race, rode the train to Oaks Park and back.  Also saw the SP&S painted F9A (former NP) at Stevenson, Washington the day after the race.
