Between October 4 and November 3, JR East was celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the completion of the Yamanote Line Loop.

The initial segment was called the Shinagawa Line, an end-to-end line that started service in 1885. Merger of two lines became the initial Yamanote Line (still not a loop) in 1909. 1925 was when the entire loop was completed and started service.

I caught the 2 "wrapped" E235s during the month long celebration. If you caught them, too, I don't feel bad posting my video captures, because I know you would have gotten much better looking shots. :-)

For future visits, especially around October 14 which is Railroad Day, you might stumble upon another celebration. I caught the black E235 in 2022 by turning luck into a precision intercept. I did the same this year. Just remember that it takes 1 hour 4 minutes for a Yamanote Line train to complete the loop, and you can shorten the wait time by riding the opposite direction.

Here's another video capture - I mixed in another technique - look for a crowd of people with cameras, especially expensive ones. I saw them at the platform end of Takanawa Gateway Station while hunting onboard a regular E235, and detrained right away... and the commemorative unit showed up within seconds. I was behind the photo line (railfan's head in my composition).

From there, I hopped on the commemorative unit to check out the interior (nothing special). Onboard the train, I planned and calculated my intercept, hopped off at Shinjuku for overtake to Kanda on a Chuo Line Rapid, and got a better, unblocked video.
