Street Running in Enoshima
Author: erielackawanna

Enoden 1000 series set 1002–1502 entering the Ryūkōji-mae intersection on its way to Fujisawa. Built by Tokyu Car Corporation in 1979, the 1000 series introduced all-steel construction and improved acceleration to the Enoshima Electric Railway. The purple-and-cream livery on the lead cars commemorates the sister line partnership with the Eizan Electric Railway in Kyoto, whose trains wear a similar color scheme. This curve marks the western end of Enoden’s 125-meter street-running section between Koshigoe and Enoshima, where trains share the road with automobiles before re-entering dedicated track toward Fujisawa. 10/14/25 Charles Freericks

Nice!

Instead of Eizan Railway, another Kyoto area railroad should be the sister railroad to Enoden, and that would be Keifuku Electric Railroad's Arashiyama Line, or nicknamed "Randen". "Ran" is the alternate pronunciation for the kanji character of Arashi (嵐), which means storm in English.

One of my railfan missions in 2024 was to document the Eizan Railway (future report), so not seeing any purple or Enoden's green + beige in any of my videos or photos made me do some research just now.

Eizan Railway used to be Keifuku Railroad's Eizan Line. Spun off in 1985-1986, so at the minimum Eizan Railway is a cousin to "Randen."
