EFE Chile same location 34 years apart
Author: masterphots

In October 1991 I embarked on a Trains Unlimited Tour to Chile, Argentina and Paraguay.  My first time in any of these countries.  We flew from Miami to Santiago on a new Ladeco Airlines 757.  On my third day in Chile,  we had a charter between Llay Llay and Los Andes hauled by an Italian E30 class electric lettered for FCN (Ferrocarril Norte).   On October 7, 1991 a photo run was conducted entering San Felipe.  Fast forward to September 6, 2025 and I shot an EFE vintage train behind GE-Alco 16005/12 at the same location. The catenary is long gone,as is the running shed and yards at San Felipe.   Little did I know how that trip would change my life three weeks later,  when I met Lolo on the return flight to Miami.  Our 33rd anniversary is in January, our son is a college graduate and here I am in Chile planning my next train chase.  Never know what might happen in life.

Photos of the two trains below, along with 'our' 757  (Ladeco photo by the late Eddy Gual)
