Ferronor Chile new acid train
Author: masterphots

After a couple of years,  Ferronor is finally getting the acid trains underway for their BHP Escondida mine contract.   They're hauling sulphuric acid from the mine to the port of Mejillones for export to Asia.  The locomotives are Indiana-built GT32ACs and the tank cars are from CRRC China.
I was up north in September and a number of CRRC techs were in country helping with the shop facilities, etc.  Talked with a couple of them at the Holiday Inn in Antofagasta and they said things were going well.  Spoke three languages so we got on well.  Operations were still in beta mode, so to speak and I only got one train in the four days I was there.  Here  is 2007E on September 7, 2025,  near power plant O'Higgins.   Chile flags were flying as it was the beginning of Sept 18 week  celebrating Chile's independence from Spain.

All CRRC China.  Only the locomotives are from US.
