International Railroad Discussion > Yokohama CritterDate: 11/09/25 20:15 Yokohama Critter Author: erielackawanna Union Construction Co. Fuji TMC400B, Yokohama, Japan – October 14, 2025
Small diesel-hydraulic maintenance locomotive (TMC400B type) owned by Union Kensetsu (ユニオン建設), seen idling at either Hiranuma or Hodogaya Yard along the Yokosuka–Sōbu Line. Built by Fuji Heavy Industries for track works and inspection duties, this single-cab unit is equipped for light shunting and rail construction tasks. Livery features Union Kensetsu’s corporate markings and decorative floral panels, typical of contractor-owned maintenance stock in Japan. I don't know the name of the yard, but Hodogaya Station is adjacent to the MOW yard. Covered building to the right was uncovered on Google Street View dated August 2025, so the landlord must have initiated a "renovation" recently? In case you plan to visit Japan again, here's some future research info. JR Freight trains normally do not run here, just Yokosuka and Tokaido Line passenger trains, except when there are detours. Next station outbound (west) at Higashi-Totsuka is where the freight trains separate from the Yokosuka and Tokaido Lines and head inbound (east) toward Yokohama-Hazawa which is near Shinkansen's Shin-Yokohama Station. TMC critters are everywhere, but it takes railfan eyes to spot and document them, Thanks for the post. Date: 11/11/25 05:46 Re: Yokohama Critter Author: jcaestecker Thank you Charles. I've really enjoyed your posts from Japan. They are really eye-opening to someone who has never traveled there..
