International Railroad Discussion > Pre-Dawn Freight Shin-Kawasaki station Japan 10/15/25Date: 11/11/25 13:30 Pre-Dawn Freight Shin-Kawasaki station Japan 10/15/25 Author: erielackawanna Railfanning on non-railfan vacation (with your spouse) generally requires being up and out hours before breakfast for some track time before you are back at the hotel when they are ready to sightsee. I set the alarm for 4AM with intent of being out of them room by 4:45. Of course, you never move as fast, and I wasn't out and to Tokyo station until 5, which put me in peril of missing the 5:45AM train at Shin-Kawasaki. As my train raced down to Kawasaki I accepted that I had missed the first train and told myself it was okay because it was still too dark anyway. Still, miracle of miracles, we arrived at the Shin Kawasaki platform at exactly 5:45 and as I stepped out of the train I did not even have 30 seconds to find a spot on the platform before I saw this headlight coming out of Shin-Tsurumi Yard towards me.
I twisted the ISO up high, no idea how high, and started shooting. Still figured I had missed the train. I'll share the closer shot soon... which came out sharp and clear and nicely lit by the platform lights. But in the meantime, here was that moment of serendipity when the railfan gods said, "yes, we'll let him have this one." JR Freight EF210-327 (Kawasaki Heavy Industries, 2020) leadia train 2053レ, the “Green Liner” intermodal from Tokyo Freight Terminal to Fukutsu, seen approaching Shin-Kawasaki Station pre-dawn on 15 Oct 2025. The EF210s, aka "Momotarō" are the standard power for container trains through here.
