Good grief. The embankment past the bridge was completely washed away?

I think so. Interesting that they do not have a car to inspect the tracks ahead of the train. In Brazil, all tourist and long distance passenger trains need a "batedor" ahead of the trains for safety. Many accidents have been prevented by this practice.

Sad news , sorry to hear about this accident .

Unfortunate derailment of the Rovos Rail tourist train.  Thanks for sharing this news item.  Overall the track structure appears well built.
