The Train at the End of the World (Argentina)
Author: NMlurker

Based on a posting on this site about two years ago I became aware of the Train at the End of the World (El Tren del Fin del Mundo) that operates out of Ushuaia, Argentina, into the National Park of the Land of Fire (Tierra del Fuego). Trust me, it is way, way down there. Beautiful, unspoiled country. Narrow gauge, I did not get steam, and we were packed in like sardines. I faced backwards but at least had a window. All shots taken on November 7, 2025.

1. The power on my train was this 0-6-0 side rod critter, "Tierra del Fuego."

2. This is the train at the station within the national park. Basically two tracks plus center siding, two sheds, and a ticket office.

3. One of the coaches showing the name of the railway, Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino (FCAF), or Southern Fuegian Railway.

4. It took some patience to get a clean shot of the locomotive not swarmed with tourists. This is at the past-midway stop of Macarena where we met a steam-powered train without good opportunity for a shot.

5. The sun even came out! The following day would be rainy.

6. A detail of the logo and builder's plate.

Thanks for posting your pictures of this most remote raiilway.  I found it several years ago on Google Maps and fantasized about a trip there.  Gerry

Disturbing to hear that none of the line's steam locos were used during your visit.  Gauge here is 500mm, a little less than 1ft 8in.

No, I said "This is at the past-midway stop of Macarena where we met a steam-powered train without good opportunity for a shot."

Thanks for the correction.  Good to know steam is still in use.

If the cruise ship M/V Ushuaia is in port, it's Alco powered.
