Indian Pacific Sydney NSW Australia (Part 1)

The Indian Pacific Travels from Sydney to Perth (Australia) once a week in each direction.
The train is too long for the Sydney Terminal and departs in three sections. The three sections are combine in Clyde Yard (a freight yard 20km west of Sydney).

Homebush, Wednesday 1st April 2026
1 - First division hauled by NR29+NR113 (both Model GE Cv40-9i) as #HL31
2 - Second division hauled by NR104 (Model GE Cv40-9i) as #HL21
3 - Third division hauled by NR28 (Model GE Cv40-9i) as #HL11

Interesting. That is not how they did it when I rode in 2017. I believe the train filled two tracks on the north side of the Sydney Central station and the train was combined there. We had 31 carriages which I believe is fairly typical.

Homebush is a great place to watch trains. Nice photos of the IP.
Spent many hours over the years at the end of the platforms there.

Sydney to Perth by rail is 4,350 kilometres or 2700 miles
