Nikon Cool Scan 8000 - 9000 Mirror Cleaning Service
Author: E25

I ran across this listing on eBay...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REPAIR-of-NIKON-COOLSCAN-Mirror-Cleaning-Service-for-8000-and-9000-ED-scanners-/222486816976?hash=item33cd3f68d0:g:0q4AAOSw8d9UsXj1

Pretty decent pricing. The only other service provider for the 8-9000 units that I have run across was asking $500 as a base fee.

I've stared at my Epson V700 a couple of times trying to figure out how to clean the bottom of the glass. Its about 7 years old and is starting to have a very slight hazy look to it.

Purely a guess on my point, the slight haze is from the plastic scanner case and whatever else is plastic inside giving off gases over time. The exact same thing happens in a brand new car that for the live of the car, the plastics used in the interior (including the dash board) give off gases that accumulate on everything. That's why, even having a never-smoked-in car, the inside of the windows still need cleaning at least twice per year...and I live in the Springfield MA area, not Los Angeles! Naturally, like new cars smelling 'new' is partly due to the gases being emitted from the plastics, vinyl, and everything else. Having bought a new scanner myself about 18 months ago, the 'new plastic' smell filled my computer room for a couple weeks, too.
