Does anyone know if this Yahoo group is still being monitored/operated? I tried to join and contacted, but never heard anything back.

I joined over a year ago. I don't think I've seen many new messages in the last few months. I'll send a message to the group to see if someone can help.

I've found that a lot of the Yahoo groups I belong to are becoming dormant
in favor of Facebook groups.

I'm seeing the same phenomenon. For those of us who prefer to avoid the scourge that is social media, that's a damn shame. :(

Unfortunately, the reality is that the 'younger set' prefers to use social media for just about everything these days. I'm an old geezer that got my first smart phone less than a year ago! I'll NEVER do social media. I spend too much time on my computer already!
