Sun Location

What would be a good iPhone app to predict where the sun will rise or set at any given location and date?

I use Sun Surveyor and really like it. A tremendous tool for photography. I have found it to be very accurate and fairly easy to use. Much more than sunrise and sunset, but also sun position and angle for any location, date, time of day (or moon at night). It has a bit of a learning curve, but you'll get the hang of it quickly enough -- considering all that is asked of the app, it's really not bad at all. The user interface is extremely well designed and very thoughtful, and manages the possible complexity of the process very well. Available for both iPhone and Android.

First rate app.

I use this same one, works fine for me and also has options for Dusk/Dawn and the "Golder Hour".

I'm a big fan of "The Photographer's Ephemeris."

A little quirky to use but, in my opinion, unsurpassed in utility.

Provides a moving line to show sun angle vs the nose of the engine
and a digital representation of the sun angle and elevation against
a "Google" map. http://app.photoephemeris.com/
If you choose this system, I can send a tutorial via PM request.

For charts and tables, hard to beat the Navy's on line service which
produces sunrise to sunset tables in increments as small as one
minute.

I just started using SunSurveyor-Pro (No Ads) $7.99. It is quite a bit like TPE AND it also has a tab for the milkyway that is awesome! It gives you the azimuth and vertical angle to the core, rise & set times for any location and date and it has a time slider that will show you an image of what it will look like at any time as you move the slider!

Totally would recommend "The Photographer's Ephemeris", my go to program. Agree takes a little getting used two but works great.

I'm impressed. I've used TPE for years but the Sun Surveyor seems to be a much more informative app. thanks!

When I edited the local paper back in the '70s I had a reporter who was a J School grad who was always turning in pix of people, usually high school athletes, taken with the sun behind them.
I finally took him out behind the building one day where I pointed out the sun and told him to always have that behind him when he took pictures in daylight.
Since he usually took his daylight pix during afternoon practice or after-school games we never had another problem....
