photo scanner recommendation

I have a lot of very old (pre 20's) photos that need to be scanned. Most are quite small (1x2 inches and on up). Some are mounted in an album and are so fragile that they cannot be removed from the pages-- others are loose.

Would like a recommendation for a scanner with the highest resolution and software to go with it.

Epson V600 is my recommendation.
