Railfan Technology > Slide Scanner QuestionDate: 01/29/18 13:17 Slide Scanner Question Author: train1275 Anyone have any input / knowledge or thoughts on a Jumbl 22MP Slide scanner ?
Date: 01/29/18 13:48 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: kgmontreal Doesn't look good to me. Buy an Epson V600 for only a few dollars more.
KG Date: 01/29/18 13:51 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: sixaxlecentury Those are not really true scanners, but more like a camera that takes a photo of a slide. I did a bunch of homework on them, and the quality was lacking in this type of "scanner".
I have had several Epson slide scanners and I am VERY happy with them. The new one is a V600, I currently have the V550. Spend the few extra bucks on it, you wont be disappointed, plus you can do slides, film, negatives and flatbed.. Date: 01/29/18 15:12 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: kgmontreal I use my Epson V600 with my ancient MacBook (system 10.6.8) and my newer one running 10.12.6. No problems at all.
KG Date: 01/29/18 20:22 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: rustyr0824 Any thoughts on these two up against the Epson V600.
Date: 01/30/18 06:30 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: rustyr0824 The Epson Perfection V850 and the Cannon Canoscan 9000F MKII. Just wondering how they compare to the Epson V600. Thanks
Date: 01/30/18 13:02 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: jbwest I have a V600 that I run with a Mac using Vuescan. It is a good scanner. But I also have a Nikon 5000ED dedicated slide scanner and have done some "side by side" comparisons. The V600 is good but it simply is not in the same class as the Nikon 5000ED. Of course it is also hundreds if not thousands of dollars cheaper and more readily available. I use the V600 primarily for scanning 120 negs and it is great for that. If the primary product of scanning 35mm slides is to post the results on the relatively low resolution internet, the V600 is a great cost effective approach. If you want to make 8x10 or larger prints, or submit stuff for publication, then I am not sure the V600 is good enough. Vuescan is fare superior to the software that comes with the V600 (or almost any other scanner) in my experience.

Thanks for that info. While posting to a site like trainorders and being able to share the images is one goal, the bigger goal would be to provide archival or publication quality digital images of those long unseen slides in the yellow boxes. Doug Ellison Date: 01/30/18 14:12 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: rustyr0824 ok thanks for the comments. I guess I'll go VueScan and see about getting my Diamge up and running.
After I clean up my computer room that is. Grin Date: 02/07/18 13:43 Re: Slide Scanner Question Author: CCMF I'd echo what jbwest says although my Epson is the V750. The Nikon Super Coolscan 5000ED is far, far better, but it also depends on your wishes for the end use. The 5000 is overkill for 99.9% of foamers just posting on the internet. Waaaay over the top overkill, and more bucks to get it. The whole like of Epsons fron 600 to 850 are all good and they do everything.
