External mic recommendations
Author: Mid_Iowa_Rails

I'm looking for an external mic to use when I video trains, with cutting down wind noise as my main consideration.
The accesory bundle I got with my camera included a cheap shotgun condenser mic, but the sound quality is quite poor and the foam windscreen isn't effective.

Budget: under $100, preferably around $50.

I'd appreciate any suggestions!

What camera have you got?

Canon Vixia R800. I've got a cold shoe mounting bracket for the mic.

The Legria camcorders have the Canon mini advanced shoe so you can attah a DM-100 microphone, which is very good... I don't think this works on the Legria series though...

The Vixia R800 doesn't have an integrated shoe mount, just a 3.5mm input jack.
I was thinking something like the Rode VideoMic GO or the Rode VideoMic. These are slightly above my budget, but if these are significantly better than a cheaper option like the Movo VXT4000-PRO, I guess I'd rather buy the better mic in the first place.
