Epson V800, V850 scanners
Author: Rathole

Anyone here have any experience with the Epson V800 or V850 scanners for scanning slides and negatives?   I'm giving them a good look to replace my V550.

I've been using a V700 for years and love it.  I'm sure the 800/850 are top drawer also.  I have a lot of bigger negatives (PC,616 and bigger) and it has always done great.

There are some notes online.  Probably a lot better features, ease of use and software included, but on an individual scan I wouldn't bet on any better result?

I just got my V850 about 3 weeks ago.  I am very pleased with it.  I used first to scan 80 8x10 glass plate negatives I had.  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4852333  and
https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4849732  and https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4847548.
The only thing is I found that when I sprang for the up-grade on the Sliver Light program it really open up the things I could with it.  I have used it on documents, photo's and, slides and negs and are well pleased with it. Having said that on the slides it's a little slow as you do 12 at a time.  So would I do it again, you bet.  Very glad I purchased it.  If you have any other question PM me.  I'd be glad to help.

I've never used any other software other than the Epson that came with the V700.  It has aways done the trick for me.  Wonder what I'm missing?

Same here, I use V700 because I learned on 4990 at school and use transferred easy.  But I normally scan just 3 or less at a time as needed, not really into scanning thousands, maybe when I have less to do???  I have that other scanner, slide only people talk about but it sits in box, didn't see any miracles for my use and work flow and scan required adjustments.

I have a V800 and love it.  I've only done 35mm slides and B&W prints.  I run it with VueScan.  This is the 4th scanner I have used VueScan to drive and it works gteat.

Two problems:

1. The reds are too intense (saturated) which I can mostly fix with my photoeditor.  I use Picture Windows Pro 64.  Any comments???

2. Every once in a while and seemingly radomly it gives a small beep and stops.  My guess it is crashing because it can't find enough space on my hard drive.  Any comments???
