Does anyone have this classic scanner working on a current OS rather than Windows XP?

I paid 500 yen plus tax at my favorite junk and recycle store here in Japan for a Canoscan 9900f with all the accessories, including install disks, and power supply. Works fine on an elderly Windows XP installation so I have a fine scanner. I tried Vuescan on several platforms with no success, and attempted XP on Virtual box.

All documentation was in Japanese of course! Blast from the past to use XP.

It shouldn't be any problem at all.  Canon has Windows 10 drivers for it on their support page.  That's the sign of a good company to maintain an older product like that.

Where?
Every canon site I see says 9900f  and 8400f are not supported on windows 10.
It actually has the nerve to say you need to buy a new product, the sign of a rip off company [IMHO]

Any way my 8400f runs perfectly well using Cano Scan toolbox on my windows 10 machine.

If you have a viable link to Windows 10 driver for the Canoscan 9900F please post it. Perusing the Canon websites around the world development ceased at Vista and prior to OSX. I used to be tortured as a device driver developer but gave it up to be a railfan!

I'm running a similar scanner, 9950f, on Win 10, but using both CanoScan Toolbox and drivers for Win7 64-bit.  A few of the Toolbox features no longer work after migrating from Win 7 to Win 10, but the scans themselves seem to be fine.  Canon link for 9900f is at
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/scanners/support-scanners-canoscan-series/canoscan-9900f?subtab=downloads-drivers

I didn't find a 64-bit version of Toolbox or drivers for the 9900f on Canon's site, but maybe the 32-bit versions for XP (or Vista?) might work on Win 10.  I also discovered that, in order to get things to work on my Win 10 box, I had to download and install the CanoScan Toolbox and drivers from the Canon website rather than installing from the disc that came with the scanner.

As a longshot, the Toolbox and drivers for the 9950f might also work for the 9900f.  Just a thought.

@TheNavigator I tried your suggestion for Windows 10 but no change.  The PID for the 9900F is 2210 and the PID for the 9950F is 2219 so the driver can't find the device.  I am still working on the XP system.

Looks like you've tried running a virtual machine and/or VueScan, which is what I would have tried also.  Sorry it didn't work out.

I'm using mine under VueScan. Never tried Canon driivers, as I've had a license for Vuescan for >10 years. I suggest biting the bullet and getting Vuescan.

When I was buying my 9900F earlier this year, I found a sweet deal on one from Japan as well. Trouble was it was built for their 100V household power, and Canon said it would require a transformer to work on US current. I found another. The price was slightly higher, but cheaper than buying the Japanese model and a voltage converter.

Good luck!

@Arved  I am a paid Vuescan owner and after communicating with Hammerick he stated it does not work on WIndows 10. I also tried it on latest OSX.  What OS are you using?

I paid less than equivalent $5 for the scanner and it works perfectly on XP. I live in Japan in 60hz territory so the power supply is no concern.

I have to appologize. I have the 9000F, not the 9900F.

Sorry!

Canon will work with Vuescan if you load their 32-bit drivers instead of the 64-bit. Trick is making sure you have deleted all other versions of Vuescan and making sure it is the 32-bit that laods in. MBW
