New laptop with video issues
Author: bnsf6606

I just purchased a new laptop and all of the videos that I'm trying to watch on here show up as static and I cannt view them.  My older laptop had no issues with watching videos here.  Any suggestions?

For now download and play  or download VLC video player and use that on download.???

I'd guess it is trying to play with the wrong program or setup but not sure how to change that.  for others to help you might want to notate type of laptop ie Windows or Apple and also the browser you are using.

Let's see if we can figure this out.  Here are some questions to start off:
  • What operating system are you using (Windows 10, for example)?
  • What web browser are you using? Have you tried using a different web browser?
  • Do you have a reasonably fast internet connection?
  • Can you watch videos on youtube, and if so do they look normal?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm using a MacBook Air, exactly what my old laptop was and I never had issues prior to this one.  It has the latest operating system.

I'm using Google as well as Safari web browsers and get the same result.

I have a very fast internet service and can watch Hulu Netflix and You tube without buffering or other issues.

There must be an issue with the video reader on this laptop I'm guessing and will probably have to contact Apple to find out why.  Thanks for your suggestions.

This is an issue since the last Apple OS update.  Until they fix it, you can click the "Download this Video" link below a video.  Once it downloads, you should be able to open and play it on your system with Quicktime.

Also, Chrome does not have the problem.

Is Win10/MS-Edge browser well-behaved processing video? MS keeps waking up Edge while I keep putting it to sleep to return to Chrome.

Thanks everyone. For now I am downloading the videos and they are working fine. I’ll download Chrome to see if I can then watch the videos directly from TO.
