I have some older conrail footage from the boston line saved to dvd but it doesn’t look it it should on Vhs. My Vhs tapes from a seller of the conrail boston and albany didn’t have space taken up by black spaces at the top and bottom of the video. I am supposed to have the video on the full screen without these black top and bottom spaces. It looks like i messed up on something during the dvd burning process. can someone help me out?

Sounds like the aspect ratio is set for widescreen (16:9) instead of standard (4:3).  So it's letterboxed.  Is the TV a widescreen TV?

is there a way to get it to go 4:3?, i would like it in 4:3 format

Check in the setup menu of the player and on the TV.
