OT - VHS tapes
Author: Curt

I have quite an extensive dvd and VHS collection; all train related.  I rarely watch the VHS tapes, and am looking to give them away.  Quite a few from Pentrex, Highball Productions, Charles Smiley, Trains Magazine, etc.  I've contacted Railroad museums near me, but no interest was shown.  Again, not looking to sell them, just give them away.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

How about a local library?

If you 're giving away the tapes, might as well donate the player. Not many seem to have a working VHS player anymore, my Toshiba is 6 years old and it was a store demo.
Why would anyone accept a technology that you can't play?

I've tried repeatedly to give away my VHS tapes and the player.  No one wants them.  They're probably headed to the landfill one of these days.

Same here in the UK. Charity shops and railway swap meets and sales stands all have notices saying'no videos'! Chris uk.

Glad to report that I was contacted by the nearby South Coast RR Museum, and they would be happy to have them.

It's possible to convert them to a digital format (mp4:?) I've seen the results and, while not the greatest quality, the converted files are watchable.

It sounds like this could be a tedious process. I'm sure that a conversion service is available onliine.
