New site with real-time Amtrak location data
Author: tcarney57

I think this site, run by Riley Walz, is pretty new. It uses publically-available online data to map where each of Amtrak's trains are, whether it is late or on-time, and an estimate of how many ticketed riders are on board. Hovering over each dot on the map pops up its name and train number, and how many people are on board based on Amtrak's data of train capacity versus available tickets.

For a little more on the site, see this blog post:

The Adafruit post refers to the Amtrak "API." In case you've never heard of it, here's what API means:

This is a little bit limited. I looked and it showed Amtrak #6 in the Sierra Nevada enroute to Truckee, CA. There IS another #6 that is crossing Colorado right now and will arrive in Denver tonight. It doesn't show that section of #6.

This site gives you a lot more info and it's more user-friendly.

Hopefully the walzr site is under development and may expand.   First thing I noticed is that it was missing train #3 entirely. The ridership info is interesting.

For now it seems that asmtransitdocs is more useful for what i want to see.
