Railfan Technology > Adjusting shadows after xfering image from iphone 15 to Ubuntu PC

I use the camera on my iPhone for all my photography.  I then you email to move the images from my iPhone to my PC (Lenovo desktop running Ubuntu 26.04).  I use the Shotwell software that comes with Ubuntu to crop image and adjust shadows and highlights.  Attached images are from a SunRail crew change that was occurring around 1 p.m. at the Sunrail side of the Deland station.  The sky was overcast, and I was shooting from the Amtrak platform (covered).  The first image was uploaded to TO without any adjustment.  The second had "shadows" moved from 0 to 15.  I don't know what "shadows" and "highlights" are equivalent to on professional imaging software.  All I know is that unless the subject is in bright daylight, the images appear dark.  I also received some other images taken from an unknown type of electronic camera; and when I transferred images to my PC they all appeared too dark unless I moved shadows moved from 0 to 15.
