Western Railroad Discussion > Rush Hour at Emigrant GapDate: 04/19/17 00:54 Rush Hour at Emigrant Gap Author: Amtrakdavis22 On a cold winter evening, the railroad has sprung to life. An eastbound grain train has pulled up to Switch 9 to wait for the passing MNPRV. Tucked in the middle of all this action is the rotary snowplow. SPMW 207 waited here overnight as trains and clouds rolled on through.

Can you imagine getting this technical quality out of 35mm Kodachrome. It would have been an excellent photograph but it wouldn't have all that sparkle and sharpness. Digital has made us better photographers.

Date: 04/19/17 16:21 Re: Rush Hour at Emigrant Gap Author: mojaveflyer And where did digital photography come from? Spy satellites... The early spy satellites used rolls of film as this example of an early spy satellite shows with the roll of film on top. It was ejected from the orbiting space craft and recovered by a cargo plane near Hawaii as it descended under a parachute. Yes, our digital cameras owe their origins to spy satellites.
I shot this at the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs the first week of the April. The NRO (National Reconnaissance Office) is looking to declassify their early hardware to display in museums around the country to show what they were doing in the 'old days'... 2. At the Evergreen Air and Space Museum at McMinnville OR the camera from an SR-71 recon plane is on display, seems to be a similar roll for film (9" wide?). If you go to Winterail at Corvallis next spring, a visit to Evergreen is well worth your time. Date: 04/19/17 21:48 Re: Rush Hour at Emigrant Gap Author: doge_of_pocopson Wow. B
