Western Railroad Discussion > Busy Times on the Fort Worth & WesternDate: 04/25/17 07:20 Busy Times on the Fort Worth & Western Author: kenfl9 Photo 1 - On Sunday afternoon April 23rd four FWWR SD40-2's are shoving approximately 60 cars north out of ex-Rock Island now UP Peach Yard in Fort Worth, TX. The transfer run is crossing the Clear Fork of the Trinity River on its way back to FWWR Hodge Yard and after a few hours of switching will leave Fort Worth for Cresson, TX as the FWCR train.
Photo 2 - The next day on Monday April 24th the FWWR 403 job is eastbound out of Dublin TX on its way to Cresson, TX with 103 empty frac sand cars. Power is two FWWR SD40-2's and two lease-to-own CEFX AC4400's that in two years will become FWWR 2029 and 2030 along with a third AC400 that will become the 2031. Cannot wait to see those in FWWR colors. Photo 3 - The train is now heading down grade at Colony Road halfway between Tolar and Granbury, TX. Date: 04/25/17 07:24 Re: Busy Times on the Fort Worth & Western Author: tomstp Wonder how slow it got going uphill from Bluffdale to Tolar?
Date: 04/25/17 07:27 Re: Busy Times on the Fort Worth & Western Author: kenfl9 Photo 4 - The 403 job is heading uphill now coming off the Lake Granbury bridge in Granbury, TX.
Photo 5 - The 403 Job is arriving in Cresson, TX as it crosses highway 171 at the west end of town. Photo 6 - A minute later the 403 job is heading up the main past dormant ex-ATSF CTC signals while on the right in the siding a 405 extra job is putting together a train of merchandise cars from yesterday's FWCR train seen in Photo 1 before heading west to Dublin. With 14,800 horsepower and 103 empty cars he was making close to the 40 mph track speed all the way up the hill to Tolar. Date: 04/25/17 07:40 Re: Busy Times on the Fort Worth & Western Author: kenfl9 Photo 7 - A local identifier is visible as three FWWR SD40-2's back onto their train of merchandise cars to run to Dublin as a 405 extra job.
Photo 8 - After an air test the 405 job leaves the siding and prepares to enter TWC territory on the way west to Dublin. Photo 9 - A few minutes behind the 405 job the 403 job pulls by now with 75 loaded frac sand cars to take back to Dublin to be forwarded to Texas Pacifico at San Angelo Junction over BNSF trackage rights. The 403 job's 14,800 horsepower did not have to work hard on the eastbound run with 103 empties, but now will be tested with 75 loads over the many grades of the Dublin Sub. The crew will take their time performing an air test to give the 405 job ahead time to give a few miles back to the dispatcher so they can get them for their own track warrant. Brian Stevens Date: 04/25/17 19:03 Re: Busy Times on the Fort Worth & Western Author: JoCoLB Extrmely nice photos. You sure picked some bright color for your series.
