THIS is why I LOVE Winter!!!
Author: rrartist

With the delivery of "new" CP 8100 series locomotives combined with at least five inches of new snow,I just had to get track-side this morning and here are the results of my morning on the CP Rail. CP 8126 leads CP 2/484 into Dakota MN. These newer motors really look sharp in the whites' of Winter! CP 475 had seven new 8100s this led by the CP 8105, shown here curving into Dakota MN and going into the siding at Donehower to meet two east bounds.

Well at least the older GE wasn't leading! Here's another look at CP 475, CP 8105 west at Dakota. The first east bound train was CP 470 and yet another surprise, the UP 6229 in pretty much full SP paint! This train was being chased by CP 198 and the CP 9830.

I ventured further north as CP 475 was going to meet Amtrak at Homer so I just had to photograph the CP 8105 once more as it rumbled up the Homer Siding. With Amtrak doing station work in Winona I went back to Dakota for the snow show. Amtrak 85 leads the Empire Builder and a ground blizzard past the town. CP 474 was up next with the CP 8898 leading a colorful consist through Dresbach MN.

The only EMD in the bunch and it sure was a nice one! NS 2504 with a fine sounding P5 whistle leads CP 484 as it motors through Dresbach MN This was my ticket back to La Crosse where I photographed the NS 2504 slicing into town. Last but not least or forgotten, the BNSF 5956 leads a Stack train past my house in a cloud of winter's goodness!

What a great series of winter railroading... Thanks for sharing and braving the elements and the roads to shoot these!

Nice catch on the SP AC4400 on the point!

Out of curiousity, will this be the end of the SD40-2s on the CP? They seem to be lasting a lot longer on the CP mainline trains (based on watching your photos for years) than they have on the UP or BNSF. It's always nice to see the old power.

Cool stuff, Jim! (pun fully intended) Of course, I had to turn the space heater in my cozy little hobby dungeon up a notch or two... ;^)

A really GREAT Winter series! Great shots all around. No snow in the backyard, just heavy fog. Possible snow later in the week.
