ARR 3012 is seen heading north on the evening of August 9, 2019. First spotted on the east leg of the Portage wye, the 3012 was also spotted on the north side of 20 Mile River heading north to Anchorage

For comparative purposes, ARR 2804 is seen leading a northbound freight, at about the same locations, at the same time of day, in July 1986

Note the Bi-Centennial FP units, and ARR 1505, an A-B-A worktrain dead in tow, heading back to town

The work train with F-units is unbelievable in this day! Any more shots of the Fs? Good work and thanks!

Interesting contrasts. What I'm seeing is the RR content they still have GP49's running, but also the distinct difference in a past July with plenty of snow and standing water vs the present August with bare mountains and dry grass. No wonder they have a wild fire problem this year.

Congrats on the IOTD, t4p.

Just driving me more and more to go "North to Alaska" next June. Was there with my youngest son in 2011. Best railfan trip ever. Fortunately my wife is on board and wants to go. Thanks for all the great pics!
