NYC action (when every train was worth chasing)
Author: FT

Being in my mid 70's, I admit to having joined the "It's all crap now" club. Though I would limit that to mainline roads. Shortlines and industrial are still of interest.

Not enough old northeast stuff on here, so I pulled out some NYC
First up are three Alco RS 32's pacing shot from car window on Christmas Eve day, 1962, by J D Ingles. These were later renumbered to 2020 series. here as 8036 - 35 - 42.
I see I missed putting down the location on this one, Gary, IN

Second is A-B-A  F 7's and F 3 at E St Louis, IL 7/62, by me. I spent the whole day walking around both sides of the river. It was all great stuff. Only stopped once by a special agent.
I was 19 and pretty nerdy. He just said to not climb on anything, and not to be in E St Louis after dark! Had about two rolls of film, what a shame.

Third  is RS 3 8249 leading RS 32's 8038-22-21-25. 5/66  No info on mount as to photographer or location, but I see a big sign at the far side of the scrapyard that says
"Dearborn Machinery Movers", so I assume it was Dearborn, MI.Behind the power, three reefers, looks to be two icers and a mechanical, then eight stock cars.

Outstanding photos!  I was probably not far away when the third photo was taken.  I was 7 years old in 1966 and we lived in Dearborn, MI with the NYC tracks behind the house.  I remember watching trains going by while eating breakfast or lunch in our dining room.  Great NYC stuff.

Fantastic !  Love the track layout in #3 and also the auto graveyard off on the right.

No. 1 and 3 could be hot NY trains that ran btw Chicago and New York via the Michigan Central in Canada.

Neat shots.  Photo 3 is definitely Dearborn, MI.  Train is eastbound, photographed from Miller Road, just about to arrive at Livernois Yard.  The Advance Yard is to the left.

There's an interesting signal ahead of the lead RS32 in the first shot which appears to be on a parallel main and also appears to be sporting 4 indications on the heads. Don't know if that would help ID the location. Could those be NKP sigs?

As a distant, adolescent observer of the "Red team vs Green team" debate I developed a strong affinity for the PRR. No doubt because of a calendar hanging in Grandma's house. My Grandfather was a retired Rock Island man and regularly received calendars of RR origin or content. I distinctly remember the dark, round shape + headlight of a GG1 in the picture (Grif Teller image?). But I have to say your posting of these Green team images is pure GOLD! And kudos for getting the IOTD nod. In my opinion this happens waaaaay too seldom for Nostalgia forum images...

I didn't think there were NKP tracks there if it is Burns Harbor. I thought most of the tracks lakeside of the NYC tracks from the Illinois/Indiana border were EJ&E or Inland Steel

The second photo is at Relay Jct looking north.  The depot is visible under the overpass with what looks like a passenger train stopped on the other side of it.  The freight appears to be starting up the approach to Macarthur Bridge to St. Louis.
