6912 as pictured has a Nathan P5 horn which was rare on UP.

Neat shots!  I have personal connections to two of those Centennials: 6912 was loaned to the Feather River Rail Society to use as a parts donor for 6946.  I helped strip it for usable parts before we returned it to the UP.  And I have ridden in 6936 a few times over the years.

Thanks for posting!

I wonder when it got the P5. It didn't have it 4 years earlier when I shot it in November 1975.-BMT

Well deserved IOTD, valmont. Your North Platte coverage has been very enjoyable. Back when Union Pacific could and wanted to handle it.

indeed very rare on Union Pacific to have a P5 horn. Most UP units had 3 chime horns possibly Leslie horns.. Wonder where Union Pacific got it from?
Nice back in the day images.
