Date: 10/20/20 15:51 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: Ritzville Great looking shot Ted! Looks like water is low in the area.
Larry Date: 10/20/20 16:25 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: 3rdswitch Wow, that is very telling.
JB Date: 10/20/20 16:38 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: photobob I didn't think the lake was that low again. Here's a shot I took in October of 2008. The drought has been around for twelve years..Of course the lake filled up again since then after the rainy season. That's the old highway 99 bridge that was in use till the Shasta Dam was built and the road relocated to higher ground. The old highway bridge is usually under about twenty feet of water. Great shot Ted I saw that train go by my house a few days ago.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Valley_Project Get worried if it looks like this in the spring. Nice photo, looks like you had a good road trip. t4p Date: 10/20/20 19:59 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: SouthWestRailCams Date: 10/20/20 20:05 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: coach To think that bridge was part of the US 99 route, that even big trucks used back then. Must have been a l-o-n-g trip between Sacramento and Portland....compared to today's roads.
Date: 10/20/20 20:25 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: PHall They draw the lake level down in the early fall to make room for the rainy season's rains. Otherwise where would you put it?
Raising and lowering the lake level is not done quickly. Date: 10/20/20 23:57 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: Evan_Werkema The following plot of reservoir elevation for Lake Shasta from the Department of Water Resources California Data Exchange Center shows the lake was a lot higher at this time last year. It didn't refill particularly well over the winter of 2019-20, so it was a bit behind for this year. The level now is a just a bit lower than it was at this time in 2018, and considerably better than it was back in 2014, the lowest ebb since the really dire year of 1977. The reservoir elevation now is 964 feet above sea level. Tunnel 5 and the old truss bridge a mile or two below Lakehead begin to become visible when the lake gets down around 920 feet. Not sure when tunnel 6 further upstream under the bridge at Lakehead starts popping out.

At the level shown we are talking drought if we don't get a whole lot of snow this winter. Date: 10/21/20 04:55 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: ATSF5669 Evan, your post is amazing! Information like that is one of the reasons I keep renewing my TO sibscription. Thanks for taking the time to post that chart and share your insights!

Date: 10/21/20 13:51 Re: Salt of the Earth Author: SPgoletablock Cool shots! I’ve fished that 99 bridge when the lake was near full pool, great spotted bass fishing area. Oh yea and also the occasional train made it even better :)
