The California Zephyr was one of the more well know western trains and was equipped with some fantastic cars. A good many of these cars survived through Amtrak and are still with us, including the dome observation Silver Solarium. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad purchased this car in 2018. It was brought out for some "Winter Flyer" trains ran for CVSR members and has been running short trips the month of February. The CVSR almost exclusively uses locomotives on both ends of their trains as there are no turning facilities at the Akron end of the line, so catching a run with one of these dome obs uncoupled is a rare treat. Here are a few photos from today's train that ran from Peninsula north and return. They shoved north with the Silver Solarium- this car has lights and a horn (temporary) for the shove moves. First photo is the deadhead move south at Boston Mill, second photo is the shove move north at BM, and the third photo is at Brecksville as seen from the Rt 82 bridge.

Great pics, thanks for getting out and about and posting these great shots. I rode the line in the Fall of 2019 on a NKP 765 trip with my oldest grandson. The three "new" California Zephyr cars were in the consist. Nice to see the line from a different perspective and season.

I haven't seen it yet in Ohio but did get to ride it on the Lone Star and Sunset in past years.

That is a beautiful looking train set for sure especially with that classic observation car on the rear.  Glad that it has been saved.  Too many valuable passenger cars have not been saved which is a crime in that future generations will not be able to learn first hand what some of our bygone passenger trains were all about, especially the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.  Thanks for the photos and let's hope that this car continues to be operated in the future.

I agree that the car belongs on a mainline preferably on a line throuigh the Rockies. But Amtrak's current draconian private car policies discourage the private ownership of PVs. So don't view the SS as being imprisoned but rather that the car is being given a nice and clearly loving home until policies change:-)

Brecksville doesn't look as bad as expected after the dam removal. Hopefully we'll get steam in the valley again.

CZ was the nicest train I ever rode...
