Nothing like the UP triple track east of North Platte to Gibbon Junction. I was able to make good time down there with 844/3985 back in the good ole days. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 02/27/21 06:40 Re: Sunrise 26 Feb 2021 Author: GeneL A second Wow!
Date: 02/27/21 07:21 Re: Sunrise 26 Feb 2021 Author: BruceStikkers These are great examples of some of the added bonus observations railfans can make between trains or even when no trains show up. The environment around us makes just being there a very pleasurable experience.

JB - Omaha Date: 02/27/21 12:35 Re: Sunrise 26 Feb 2021 Author: SWChief And yet another WOW!! Beautiful shots indeed!
It looks like you and your midwest neighbor, Lance (santafe199) couldn't buy a train yet still got some amazing shots on the same day - yours at sunrise in Nebraska and his at sunset in Kansas. Check out his post 2 lines up and 4-1/2 hours after yours. Incredible!! Thanks! Amazing what Mother Nature is capable of.

OMG YES!!! #1 is a slam-dunk, no excuses IOTD! Probably a good thing you got no train. Otherwise grown adult railfans would be weeping at the beauty... Lance Date: 02/28/21 09:19 Re: Sunrise 26 Feb 2021 Author: crazybill Beautiful shots! Very deserving of IOTD...

------------------------------------------------------- > I was able to make good time down there with > 844/3985 back in the good ole days. Back in my Wyoming days, I remember chasing 844 west of Sidney, Nebraska with Mr. Nystrom (a great fellow who I still miss dearly) when, seeing a long line of clear signals, he decided to "stretch her out a little bit." It was a deadhead move with no passengers on board the train. Well, I was doing over 85 mph on U.S. 30, and 844 and her train was pulling away from me. I did not catch up to the train again until the train got a bunch of yellow signals west of Pine Bluff, Wyoming. And, yes, that sunrise is spectacular. Anyone who thinks that the Great Plains can't have a wonderful beauty of their own has never lived there. I've lived in both mountains and plains--I love both and can live happily in both. I'll take either over some big city any day. Great railfanning opportunities on the Great Plains, too--everything from busy mainlines to bucolic branch and shortlines.
