Ten years ago this summer I had just gotten moved back home to Kansas. After 23 years with MRL in Montana my RR career was over, five years early on a medical disability. But I had some unfinished business to attend to. I had been running a dart league in Laurel, MT since 2003 and a couple of my younger league members were getting married. I wasn’t going to miss it! Needless to say I put in a considerable chunk time railfanning up & back!

I was right on schedule, reaching Laurel on the Friday evening. Their wedding was the next afternoon and I had the luxury of finding a motel room with lots of railfanning daylight left. That is, whatever daylight this rogue bank of clouds saw fit to give me! You never know when a Low Light opportunity will show up, so you have to be prepared to take advantage of it. I wasn’t about to travel 960+ miles and pass up shooting a semi-rare CN-led train on MRL trackage just because of some dern cloud...

1. CN 2339 points an eastbound coal empty just leaving Laurel Yard in Laurel, MT. This is the ‘Mossmain” junction area where the BNSF line from Great Falls comes down and ties in to the east end of the yard. The east leg of the WYE is visible in the right hand side of the image.

That's a strong image. The sky reminds me of a paint by number oil painting kit I had back in the Fifties! It had a sky composed of yellows, oranges and grays like your image.Funny I have no recollection of what the subject of the painting was but I'm sure it wasn't a CN locomotive.

We here in the Land of OZ really like to get after it whenever a Canadian unit is pointing a train "thru these here parts"! Just so happens that during my Master RR Image folder rebuild project (tedious work from the external back-up) I had just finished with my 6 CN sub-folders. Matter of fact, that's where this image came from!     

Tell ya what... I'll go digging back into the 'train-shot' folder and scare up another image I can post, maybe even later on today... :^)
