BNSF Praises Company Teamwork in Derailment Cleanup

A derailment near Neelys, Missouri, illustrates how BNSF and its contractors will do whatever they can to turn tragedy into triumph. The derailment occurred last month after seven inches of rain washed out 31 feet of track on a hillside adjacent to the Mississippi River.

Two BNSF locomotives and 14 loaded auto racks containing about 175 automobiles traveling along the track derailed. Fortunately, the train crew made it across the stretch in the lead locomotive and were unharmed.

Ricky Smith, claims representative, says the track was up and running in about 36 hours, thanks to BNSF employees who worked closely with the owner of the adjacent land and BNSF
